Obituary of Mary Lurana Dreska

Lurana died peacefully on Monday, December 18, 2023 after a brief illness. Lurana was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, John, her parents, Daniel and Mary, and her brother and sister, Michael McLoughlin and Patricia Botta. Lurana is survived by her sons John (Carol), and Christopher (Lisa), three grandchildren John, Taylor, and Danielle.

Lurana was a proud military spouse to John, as he served on active duty in the United States Army for over 32 years. Born in Brooklyn, New York, she traveled the world while living at Fort Dix, New Jersey; Camp Zama, Japan; New Orleans, Washington D.C.; Seoul and Taegu, South Korea; New Cumberland, Pennsylvania; Stuttgart, West Germany; Columbus, Ohio; Fort Lee, Virginia; and settling on the Florida Space Coast.

Along with her husband John, she was honored to be a founding member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church where she also previously served as a Eucharist minister and Catechist. Lurana was active in the Space Coast community for many years enjoying the Melbourne area Senior Adventures in Learning (SAIL) program, and cruising frequently. She loved being a member of the Indian River Colony Club (IRCC) community and spent many years enjoying the company of great friends in the area. She enjoyed cheering her sons and grandchildren in soccer, baseball, and softball sporting events.

She earned her undergraduate degree at Sophia University in Tokyo, her first masters from Loyola University in New Orleans and subsequent master degrees from Catholic University and Trinity Washington University.

Funeral Mass to be held on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at 11 AM at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church at 5655 Stadium Parkway, Viera, FL 32940 with interment on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at 1:00 PM at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery at 5525 US-1, Mims, FL 32754. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Grotto Fund at St John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Viera, Florida.
