Though her marriage with Boyd concluded, love found its way back to Shirley when she met and married Terry Melloy in 2002. Shirley and Terry shared many wonderful loving years of traveling, playing golf and spending time with family and friends.

Shirley worked in the public utilities industry for many years and in many different capacities, ranging from clerical positions to company airline stewardess, pipeline right of way aerial observer, and manager of the corporate travel department. She worked at Consolidated Gas Corporation until she retired in 2002. After retiring, she held positions with Florida Institute of Technology and Mountain Leverage. At one point, she and Terry worked together at Butler Manufacturing Company.

Shirley’s hobbies included cooking, baking, cake decoration, golfing, traveling, and entertaining family and friends. Cooking and helping with her grandkids were some of her greatest joys.

She traveled to many exotic places in her lifetime including Turkey, Aruba, Greek Islands, Japan, cruised throughout the Caribbean, as well as visited most of the states in the United States.

She and Terry were members of the Indian River Colony Club Chapel. On many Sundays they picked up floral arrangements for their religious services.

She is preceded in death by her parents Floyd and Waverline Burnell, her brother, Paul Burnell, and son, Michael Welling, as well as her two nephews, Jeff and Tim Burnell.
