Obituary of John "Jack" Lee

John F. (Jack) Lee, beloved father, grandfather, husband, friend, and longtime resident of Viera, FL passed away peacefully on Monday, November 6, 2023.

Jack was born on January 12, 1935 in Philadelphia, PA, and was the only child of Loxley Simpkins Lee and Margaret Mary Bergan.

He graduated from La Salle College High School in Philadelphia, served in the United States Army for three years, and graduated from Middlebury College with a degree in Russian studies. He then served honorably for 34 years in the Directorate of Operations in 5 countries. A committed teacher, he helped train the next generation of case officers after retirement from the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).

Jack met his first wife, Pamela Gail Wheeler (Lee), while they both worked at the CIA. They married in 1962 and had their daughter, Gail Wheeler Lee (Shine), while overseas. Their marriage ended in divorce.

Jack met his second wife, Carol Sue Cross (Lee) on a blind date in Washington, D.C. and they were later married on June 22, 1985, in Fairfax, Virginia.

Jack took enormous pleasure and pride in attending his grandchildren’s activities, and enjoyed the study of American History and world-wide travel. He was grateful to have visited all seven continents. Jack was a lifelong Washington Redskins fan and was also a health and exercise enthusiast who inspired others.

He was a member of Faith Viera Lutheran Church, a long time Vice President of the Satellite Chapter of the Association of Former Intelligence Officers (AFIO) and was a 42-year friend of Bill W.

His impact on the lives of those who knew him was profound. His bloodline reaches back to the beginning…his kin signed the American Declaration of Independence. His standard was the highest, and his character was beyond exemplary. His service to America has endured longer than most human beings have been alive.

Jack is survived by his wife of 38 years, Carol, daughter Gail (husband John), grandchildren Katie and Joey, and great grand dogs Duke and Sloan.

A memorial service will be held Monday, November 13, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Faith Viera Lutheran Church, followed by interment at the church’s columbarium, and a reception in the fellowship hall.
