Robert Benson Greene (“Bob”) and Sybil Lowe Greene (“Iristine”)
On November 24, 2020, Bob Greene, made his journey to Heaven at the age of 95. Bob’s wife, soulmate, and forever love, Iristine Greene, joined him in Heaven on March 17, 2021, also at the age of 95. Bob and Iristine were married for 74 years and their love story is one like no other.
Bob was born on November 20, 1925 in Hinesville Georgia to Altus Lewis Benson Greene and Gladys McCalmon Greene. After receiving his Masters degree at Georgia Tech, Bob worked as a Chemical Engineer for Exxon for his entire career and was responsible for Exxon’s refineries in the Western Hemisphere. Bob’s career took him and his family all over the world… they never turned down an adventure.
Iristine was born on August 3, 1925 in Canton Georgia to Cuthbert Clinton Lowe and Lucretia Stone Lowe. Iristine attended Bessie Tift College for 2 years before getting married to the love of her life and starting her family. Iristine dedicated her life to being an incredible loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Iristine was Bob’s rock… in fact, she was the entire family’s rock.
Bob and Iristine raised two children together, Cynthia and Steve. Bob and Iristine also had a tremendous role in raising their five grandchildren- Rob, Jillian, Christy, Alyssa, and Kimberly- as well as their great grandchildren- Spencer, Cooper, Maggie, Miranda, Lauren, Brandon, Jasmine, Megan, Tilden, Sawyer and Sutton. Bob and Iristine were also beloved in laws to their daughter in law Beverly and son in law Charlie and loved so much by their niece Melissa and so many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Bob was an extremely gifted artist and painted portraits of nature throughout his life. Iristine was a kitchen goddess and also taught every single one of her grandchildren manners and etiquette. Bob and Iristine not only took adventures themselves, they included the entire family. When Bob had a work project in Australia, it was Iristine who encouraged him to get up and go resulting in 4 years of lifelong memories for the entire family… including a pet penguin! Bob and Iristine travelled all over the world, from China to Europe, and even took their oldest grandchild Christy with them to Venezuela for 3 months.
Best of all are the simple memories. Bob and Iristine were the real life version of the couple from The Notebook: Always a team, always together throughout all of life’s challenges. Kind, elegant, fun and thoughtful are just a few of the words to describe them. From teaching manners to strategizing checkers, from wrestling with Grandsons, to “white gloves and party manners” with granddaughters. Scrabble, Lawrence Welk, hot dog and potato chip junk food nights, and too many walks on the beach to count. Their home was always our home too.
When you went to Heaven, a part of us went with you. We will love you forever and know you are having that amazing heavenly picnic you spoke about just weeks ago and that you are reunited with Charlie, Rebecca, GG, Creesy, and so many other beloved family members in Heaven.
Thank you, Bob and Iristine for being the tower of strength for our family, and for being an amazing example of the power of love.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, March 24 at 3:00 at Beckman Williamson Funeral Home in Cocoa Beach.
“The best kind of love is the kind that awakens the soul; that makes us reach for more; that plants a fire in our hearts and brings peace to our minds.”
