Dr. Joseph A Geer III

March 25, 1943 ~ September 11, 2021 (age 78)

It is with tremendous sadness that we announce Joseph Anthony Geer III, passed away on September 11th at the age of 78, in his home with his loving wife April and his beloved doggies and kitties by his side after years of medical struggles and many months of hospice care.  Joe is predeceased by his mother Jeane, father Joseph, brother Kevin, first wife Janet and his son Mike.  Left behind to grieve his loss are Joe’s wife, his sister Susan and brother-in-law Bill, his son Joe and daughter-in-law Rhonda, his two grandsons Tony and Erik, and several nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren as well as many friends, colleagues, and clients.

Born in Pennsylvania, Joe’s family moved to Ohio when he was young where he grew up and graduated from Northridge High School in 1961. After graduating high school, he married his high school sweetheart Janet and served as an engineer in the U.S. Air Force. He was stationed for several years in Iran where Janet was able to join him and their two sons were born. After his military service he decided to follow his passion for animals and earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1978. He owned a series of veterinary hospitals including Mifflin Animal Hospital and Highmeadows Animal Medical Center in Gahanna, Ohio and Paws Around Town Mobile Veterinary Hospital in Orlando, FL.  Affectionately known as "Doc" by his staff members , he was a dedicated compassionate veterinarian and skilled surgeon who worked tirelessly to help every animal that he could over his 30 year career and mentored many new veterinarians including his son Joe and his wife April along the way.  He was also once honored by Who’s Who in Veterinary Medicine!

Joe will be remembered as an amazing veterinarian, a devoted and loving husband, a hard-working and proud father, a pretty great big brother, a super mentor, and an overall special soul with a fighting spirit. May you rest in peace Joe in the loving arms of you mother, father and family now. You will be dearly missed every day by those left here on earth until we meet again.

Per his request Joe was cremated and no services will be held. Please in lieu of sending any flowers to the family, we ask that those who wish to honor his memory make a donation to the animal shelter in Orlando FL, Pet Alliance of Orlando, which recently suffered a devastating fire.
