Dolores Lee (Swanson) Gloe of Indialantic, FL, joined her Lord in heaven on February 5, 2020 at her home.  Dolores was born on March 9, 1927 to Olaf Swanson and Fern Mae (Grove) Swanson.  Dolores was born at home on 19 North Thorp Street, Kansas City, Kansas.

She was baptized at age 12 at Chelsea Baptist Church in KCK.  After marriage she worshipped at St. Paul Lutheran Church, KCMO; and Grace Lutheran Church, KCK.  She was confirmed July 3, 1955, at 28 years old at Bethel Lutheran Church.  Her confirmation verse was Luke 11:38, “Blessed are they that hear the Word of God and keep it!”  Rev. Bernard Becker confirmed Dolores and she was the first adult confirmed at Bethel Lutheran Church, KCK.  In Florida she was a member of Faith Viera Lutheran Church, Viera, FL.

Dolores attended Chelsea Grade School, on Wood Avenue,  KCK.  Then Whittier Grade School, Central Junior High School, and finally Wyandotte High School all in KCK.  She graduated High School in 1945.

After High School she went to work at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, KCMO.  She worked as operator, instructor, and supervisor on long distance.  There she worked with Ruth Gloe.  Ruth introduced Dolores to her brother, Paul.  After a six month courtship on March 21, 1948 she married Paul Benjamin Gloe at Immanuel Baptist Church, KCK, with Rev. Huff officiating.  Their marriage was blessed with six children:  Paul II, Claudia, Ron, Brenda, Brian, and Keith.

In marriage she lived in Kansas, Missouri, New Jersey, Wisconsin, Illinois, Connecticut, Pennsylvania and finally Florida.

In those years she served as President PTA at Vance School, KCK.  She taught Nursery SS Class at Bethel Lutheran Church, KCK.  She was also youth counselor with her husband at Bethel Lutheran.  She was very active in women’s organizations in her churches serving as:  President of  Circle, Bethel Lutheran; President of LWML, Bethany Lutheran, OP, KS; President of KCKS South Zone LWML.  She also served as Coordinator  for Bus to LWML International and District Conventions.  She was President of Lutheran Missionary Association Auxiliary, MO and KS which Rev. Virtus Gloe (her father-in-law) started.  In retirement she served as President of Rosse Lithographing, a division of Gloe Graphics, a printing company Paul B Gloe purchased in 1989.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Benjamin Gloe, her parents Olaf and Fern Swanson, daughter Brenda Mae, and son-in-law Gregory Sykes.

She is survived by her children Paul B Gloe II of Beaufort, NC., Claudia Sykes of Indialantic, FL ; Ron Gloe of Wichita, KS, Brian Gloe and wife Elizabeth, of Mission Hills, KS., and Keith Gloe and wife Jeri, of Shawnee, KS.  She was blessed with 12 grandchildren:  Paul III (wife Amiee), Jeffrey (wife Kristi), Krista (husband Scott), Greg II (wife Caroline), Joshua (wife Devanie), Meridith (husband Kris), Michael (wife Ashley), Abigail (husband Sean), Benjamin, Harrison, K. C., and Katelyn.  She was also blessed with 15 great-grandchildren: Addie, Aurora, McKenzie, Jacob, Greg III, Sophie, Sebastian, Emmanuelle, Amanda, Gavin, Joshua II, Jaden, Zion, M’Koah, and Clark.

Her funeral service will be held at Faith Viera Lutheran Church, Vierra, FL with The Rev. Ron Meyr officiating.  Inurnment will be at Park Lawn Memorial Park Masoleum, KCMO, at a later date. Donations may be made to the Kansas District Lutheran Women’s Missionary League [LWML].  Dolores was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.  She will be sorely missed!
