Diana Marie Dils (Caplinger) passed away October 2nd, 2021, at the age of 83 in Cocoa Beach, FL. She was a native of Richmond, Indiana, one of eight children, graduating from Richmond High School in 1956; she enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps shortly afterward.
She was a strong forceful woman raising three children on her own. She served in leadership positions at every major level within the Marine Corps League, eventually rising to become the first female National Commandant of the Marine Corps League. She was honored as a Sagamore of the Wabash by the Governor of Indiana for her work with veterans. She worked on a production line at the Aluminum Company of America (ALCOA), eventually switching careers to become the first female Machinery Mechanic at ALCOA. Later in life, she completed an Associate’s Degree in Information Data Management. In her later life, she retired to Florida to live with family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Deral Dils (Pickle), her parents Roy Albert and Julia Annette Caplinger, one brother and two sisters, Bud, Linda, and Eloise, and one great-grandson, Caiden Xavier.
She is survived by her son, Raymond (Donna), daughter Vicki (Lisa), son, Tim (Shauny), daughter Sherry (Steve), siblings, David, Danny, Judy and MaryLou; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and many other loving family and friends.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at 1:00pm with a funeral service to follow at 2:00pm. Services are being held at Beckman-Williamson Funeral Home in Cocoa Beach. Interment will be held at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery at a later date.
