Thomas William Grimison


Thomas William Grimison, 82, passed away Monday, March 19, 2018 at William Childs Hospice House in Malabar, Florida. He was born on Dec. 14, 1935 in Colon, Republic of Panama and spent his life in the Panama Canal Zone and on the Space Coast of Florida raising his eight children with his wife Anne “Nancy” (Burns) Grimison, who preceded him in death in 2013.


Tom is survived by children, Elizabeth Fahy, Christina Volonnino, Richard Grimison, Patrick Grimison, Rebecca Pletcher, Melinda Niemeyer, Eric Grimison and Matthew Grimison; as well as sons and daughters-in-law, Bill Fahy, Ed Volonnino, Diana Grimison, Myra Grimison, Geoff Pletcher, Tom Niemeyer, Rachel Grimison and Theresa Grimison. Tom was the devoted Grandfather to 19 grandchildren, Erin, Colleen and Shannon Fahy; Carly, Tommy, Samantha and Megan Grimison; Brandon and Chelsea Grimison; Dylan, Ryan and Rachel Pletcher; Breanne and Alison Niemeyer; MaryJane, Evan and MaryKate Grimison and Jack and William Grimison. He is also survived by brother Gene Beckand cousins Edward Scott, Richard Scott and Janice Scott. He was preceded in death by his father Thomas RichardGrimison, mother Helen Beck and stepfather Rex Beck. 


Tom graduated from Balboa High School in 1953 and went to college at Penn State University, where he met Nancy. He graduated in 1958 with a degree in architecture while also going through the U.S. Navy ROTC program. Upon graduating he served in the U.S. Marine Corps in Okinawa before returning to his wife in the Canal Zone and beginning work as an architect for the Panama Canal Company. He retired in 1986 and the family moved to Merritt Island, and later Satellite Beach, Florida while he continued his architectural career working for Johnson Controls at Kennedy Space Center and later in private practice. He was a longtime parishioner at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Panama and Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church in Indialantic, Florida. Over the years Tom enjoyed surfing in both Panama and Florida and other interests included sailing.

Services are scheduled for Monday, March 26 at 11 a.m. at Holy Name of Jesus Church at 3050 N. A1A Highway, Indialantic, FL. A memorial paddle-out will take place Sunday, March 25 at 3 p.m. at S.P.R.A Park at Berkeley Street in South Patrick Shores, followed by a memorial and celebration at the Kiwi Tennis Club at 30 Tradewinds Drive, Indian Harbour Beach, FL 32937 starting at 5 p.m. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Sisters of Mercy Women’s Center in Colon, Republic of Panama. Donations can be made online at and indicating they are for Sr. Barbara Ozelski/Women’s Center MUCEC in Colon, Panamain the additional requests/comments box.
