The Reverend Canon Raymond Unterburger of St. Paul’s Anglican Church Melbourne FL.
Fr. Ray was born and raised in Dayton, Ohio where he attended Orville and Wilbur Wright grade school and high school and graduated from the University of Dayton with a Bachelors in Civil Engineering. He worked as a civil engineer in Ohio until 1980 when he and his family moved to Florida. He was greatly involved in the Pro-life ministry in Melbourne for approximately ten years, some of that time working full time as a missionary to help save the unborn. In 1999 he and his wife left for Shreveport, LA where he studied for the Anglican priesthood. He received his Master of Divinity in 2002 and was ordained Deacon in 2002 and later that year priested. He became the Curate at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Melbourne, FL for a year, moved to Charlotte, NC where he served another year as Curate, then finally to St. Alban’s, Joppa, MD where he was Rector for seven years. In 2011 Fr. Ray was called to St. Paul’s, where he had been ordained, to be the rector where he served until his passing. Fr. Ray was on the Board of Examining Chaplains for the Anglican Province of America for the Standing Committee and then appointed to the Board of Examining Chaplains in 2007 and served as head of that board from 2013 until the present. Fr. Ray was an avid reader and enjoyed hunting.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Cheryl Unterburger, daughter Sarah Unterburger, son Jeremy Unterburger, granddaughter Vivienne Unterburger, and his brother and sister-in-law Robert and Peggy Unterburger.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 A.M., June 7, 2018 at St Paul's Anglican Church, 7200 North Wickham Road, Melbourne, Fl, 32940. The family will receive friends at the church from 9 till 10:30 P.M. prior to the service. . In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be given in Fr. Ray's name to St Paul's Anglican Church.
