It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to Robert Paul Klein, who entered eternal rest on 4 May 2018. Robert, 74 years of age, leaves behind his wife of 27 years, Cathy and three children, Robert Brian Klein residing in Spokane, Washington; Robyn O. Klein (Dave) of Palm Coast, FL; and Carrie R. (John) Ordonez of Melbourne, and three adored grandchildren, Charlie Catherine, Jamie Albert and Kelly Albert Ordonez. Bob also leaves behind his brother, Richard (Sonja) Klein of Arizona; brothers-in-law Billy Reeves, Charles (Debbie) Reeves and James Reeves, all of Merritt Island, and so many deeply loved nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Henry and Laura Klein of Santa Barbara, California.
Bob joined the United States Air Force on his 18th Birthday and retired after 20 years of service as a Senior Master Sergeant; his area of expertise being Missiles and missile maintenance. Shortly after retiring, he began working with Martin Marietta in Denver, Colorado and eventually relocated to Florida in 1989 where he met Cathy and began his second career with the Titan Program at Cape Canaveral AFS, FL and Vandenberg AFB, California as the Quality Assurance and Safety Manager.
Bob was an avid golfer and a member of the Suntree Country Club, serving in many capacities on several committees and the Board of Directors, including Vice President. Most enjoyable to him were the many years of comradery with various groups of golfers, but he loved “the Renegades” intensely. He volunteered in many PGA and LPGA events over the years; but his most cherished and proud events were working with The Arnold Palmer Invitational (on the 12th hole) and the Father Son Golf Tournament.
He was a member of First Baptist Church of Melbourne since 2006, has been a volunteer driver for Meals-on-Wheels for ten years, and was always available to do a favor for a neighbor or assist in community activities, such as Boy Scouts, Junior Achievement, and Special Olympics, always with a cheerful heart and eagerness to get involved. He was surely proud of successfully completing the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Citizens Academy Program in 2013. Bob was a member of the Port Malabar Rifle & Pistol Club and enjoyed testing his skills at the range.
A funeral service is planned for 10:00am 11 May 2018 at the First Baptist Church of Melbourne, 3301 Dairy Road. Interment, with full Military Honors, will follow the funeral service at 1:00pm at the Cape Canaveral National Cemetery in Mims, FL.
In Lieu of flowers contributions in his memory may be made to the Meals-on-Wheels, Aging Matters, Brevard County, FL
