Ed Wolchick of Cape Canaveral, Florida, passed away on Sunday, March 4, 2018 of injuries sustained in an accident the week earlier. He was 63 years old.
He was born on September 9, 1954 in Washington, DC, to Edward Sr. and Eileen O’Donnell Wolchick. He grew up in Florida and Maryland, graduating from Plantation High School in 1972 and from Cornell University with a degree in hotel and restaurant administration. Having grown up in the restaurant business, he went on to run and own several restaurants over the years, including the Sea Grill in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, and Old Field Inn and Log Cabin Inn in Prince Frederick, Maryland.
In July of 1977, Ed married Ellen Ahrenholz of Schenectady, New York. Together they were known for their love of frequent cruises and vacations because they didn’t believe in waiting until retirement to have fun. Ed and Ellen had a deep love for each other so few get to experience. They were each other’s best friends, who couldn’t keep secrets from each other and spent their lives loving their children and family with the same depth and veracity.
In 2004, Ed and Ellen moved to Florida where Ed began a new career as a driver. He most recently worked for Park Port Canaveral, driving people to and from their cruise ships. He found endless joy in meeting people during their happy vacation times. He also had been a professional Santa for several years and loved seeing children question if he really was Santa.
He always accepted and loved everyone for exactly who they were and he was known to cook delicious meals for family and guests. He loved listening to audio books of all types, at all times.
He is survived by his wife and best friend of 40 years, Ellen; four children, Leslie and Eddie of Orlando, Florida, Alex (and his wife, Alicia, and their children, Landon and Evie) of Spangdahlem, Germany, and Jessica (and her fiancé, Steve Shirk) of St. Paul, Minnesota; brother, Ted of Cape Canaveral, Florida; sister, Cheryl of St. Leonard’s, Maryland; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on March 10, 2018 at 1pm at Beckman-Williamson Funeral Home, 5400 Village Drive, Viera, Florida 32955; followed by a celebration of Ed’s life at Capron Ridge Clubhouse, 1187 Ballinton Drive, Melbourne, Florida 32940.
