Richard GriffinFebruary 5, 1943 ~ October 1, 2017 (age 74)
Richard Lee Griffin was born February 5, 1943, in Gary, Indiana. He moved to Cocoa with his parents, Lowell and Marge, and his brother Jim in 1955. He graduated from Cocoa High School and Brevard Community College. He attended Florida State University before being drafted into the US Army, and graduated from Cameron State University while serving. He always remained a true Seminole fan and also rooted for the University of Tennessee (provided they were not playing FSU). Richard sold real estate and life insurance before being hired by Martin Marietta in Orlando. As a weapons systems instructor, he was often deployed with troops around the US and even spent time in Germany and Kuwait.
Richard and Sandra were married for 50 years. Their daughter Dawn and her husband Larry Smith, have two children, Griffin (15) and Marlee (13). Their son Todd and his wife Rochelle have 3 children, Samantha (15), Nolan (12) and Abby (6). Richard’s grandchildren were the light of his life. He always enjoyed spending time with them, be it working on projects, eating out together, attending piano recitals, soccer & lacrosse games, swim meets or watching the marching band perform. Richard was also an active member of CAV, and dedicated much of his time in service there.
Richard’s memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 5th, at 2:00 p.m. at Church at Viera. His family requests that donations be made to The Haven for Children, a Brevard County charity, in honor of a giving man whose big heart loved donating to children without parents.
Richard was a truly beloved father, husband, grandfather, uncle and friend. His sudden, unexpected, and premature passing has left a huge void in our lives and in our hearts. He will be truly missed.
